What better way to spent the mid-sem break than at Cathedral Range state park.

Since I need to be ticked off as a leader, embark on a two day adventure as we combine the northern and southern loop.

Though the total walking distance is 18.5km with 910m of elevation, don’t be fooled by it. This trail involves rock scrambling, exposure and the lack of a water source at the farmyard campsite makes this an intermediate trip.

Day 1: 8km to Farmyard, Approximately 760m elevation

Plan is to leave clubroom at 0800 latest, reaching cook mills campground around 1000.

Highlights include summit to sugarloaf peak with an optional pathway via wells cave for some bouldering action.

Arrive at Farmyard campground for the night.

Day 2: 10km back to cook mills campground, 230m elevation

Pack and head back latest 0900. Aim to arrive back to club rooms around 1700.

Optional summit up viewpoint

Previous rock scrambling experience will be advantageous, with proper hiking shoes needed. Participants are also expected to carry at least 4l of water. Grade 5 circuit.

Bring $50 cash if required to hire gear from club at the trip meeting on Tuesday. Temperatures expected to be as low as 5C at night, day temps between 20-25c. Expected fuel cost around $35-40.

The leader will carry a first aid kit, PLB, shovel, and map.
