Hi all!
Do you like Australian history, stunning views, and the wondrous state of Tasmania? This event may be for you!
The Wombat Waddle 6 and 12hr Rogaine hosted by Rogaining Tasmania will be held on the 28th of November in Bangor. I am flagging this one because it is outside the Unimelb exam period and is an exciting opportunity to try rogaining in a different state!
This event will be held on private land at Tasman Bay (aka Monument Bay) - the site where Abel Tasman landed in 1642. RT says you're almost guaranteed to see some awesome wildlife, including wombats and potentially Tasmanian devils!
More information can be found here: https://www.rt.asn.au/event-entry/upcoming-events/local/wombat-waddle-6-and-12-hour-bush-rogaine
There will be no trip meeting for this event, but you may use the comment section to meet teammates, and I am happy to match people up if you contact me directly on
Gear can be hired from the club, including gear for the rogaine itself and gear for camping. If you have team members in mind or are looking for people to team up with, come along to the meeting where we will be organising teams of 2 to 5 people. Everyone is welcome to join, whether it is your first time or your 100th!
We also have a chat on the Oxo Clubrooms just for rogaining, so you can always put any questions you have in there if you can’t find the information on the VRA page! Please also consider volunteering. It helps out the VRA who are volunteers just like us and you get free entry into a future rogaine of your choice.
What is Rogaining?
Rogaining is the sport of distance cross-country navigation in which teams of two to five members visit as many checkpoints as possible in the specified time. It’s kind of a mix between trail running/hiking and orienteering (sort of like a scavenger hunt in the bush!). At our meeting I will explain the rules in more detail, and if you want to read more, see here: https://rogainevic.org.au/about/
