Hello! Come join us for a little hit out to Port Campbell and back. The route mainly follows the Camperdown-Timboon and Poorpa Yanyeen Meereng trails, and also makes up the first leg of the Otway Rip. It's an out and back with minimal elevation, 120km over two days, staying the night at a campsite in Port Campbell (location & price TBC). Swim at the beach mandatory.
We'll be catching the V/Line to and from Camperdown station - roughly 2.5 hours from Southern Cross.
The trail is compacted dirt and gravel, so bike tyres 30mm+ are recommended. Get in touch if you need a hand hiring gear including bike racks and panniers (though you must BYO bike that has rack/gear mounting points). This is a comfortable beginner's trip but you should have a decent level of fitness, especially since the ride back to Camperdown is uphill... And we have to be there by 4pm to catch the last train back... We won't be on any major roads but you must be comfortable cycling in close proximity to motor vehicles.
TLDR - to go on this trip you will need:
- overnight camping experience
- your own bike that you can a) comfortably ride and b) mount camping gear on
- a good level of fitness to cycle 60km each day
- to be comfortable cycling around cars
- to be a babe
You don't need to have been bike packing before - just make sure you're comfortable with each of the constituent parts (biking & camping)
