Meeting: Sun, 13 May 2012, 12:00 pm

Requirements: Trip meeting at the start of the walk. You must sign up online and be able to make your way independently via train to Upper Ferntree Gully Station.

The Dandenong Ranges National Park is situated approximately 40km from Melbourne and offers easily accessible day walking.  Ferntree Gully is one of the easiest spots to access in the park, from Upper Ferntree Gully train station on the Belgrave Metro train line.

If you would like to join me on this walk, the plan is to meet at Upper Ferntree Gully Station at lunchtime (specific train time to be posted for people logged in to see).  This means you can hop on the train anywhere along the line from Flinders Street.  The trip meeting will be held at the start of the walk to check everyone has suitable gear etc. You must be independent in making your way to Upper Ferntree Gully Station.  Check http://ptv.vic.gov.au/ for train times from your nearest station.  Note it is Upper Ferntree Gully Station.

We will walk a 8 / 9km loop, starting and finishing at the station, up into the National Park.  The tracks are wide and well surfaced but sections are quite steep as the walk ascends into the park.  Apart from the steepness the walking is easygoing and there's even a cafe at the end if we finish early enough!

You will need waterproofs if the weather is wet, good walking shoes or boots, a day pack, snacks, water, warm clothing, hat and gloves if it is cool.  The Dandenongs can be a lot cooler and damper than Melbourne so please be aware of this when planning what to take.

You must be signed up online to be able to come on this trip.  Signups will close on Friday 11th May. Likely 10 - 12 people maximum, so only sign up if you are committed to coming on the walk.  Once you have signed up please email me so that I have your email address and contact mobile number (my email to be posted for people logged in to see).
