Hey walkers,

I'm planning to re-walk this enjoyable walk in Mt Macedon.

The walk is 17.6 km, rated medium to hard by John Chapman (Daywalks Victoria), total climbing is 570m and the estimated walk time is around 5.5 hours with a shorter lunch stop.

We'll be walking around the Macedon Regional Park through a range of native and exotic forests, starting by climbing to the peak of Mt Macedon, which has excellent views across the plains to the city. Along the way we'll also see the Mt Macedon memorial cross, commemorating World War 1. We'll then continue onto Camels Hump for more views, then around Sanatorium Lake and over Mount Towrong back to the cars/bikes by the General Store.

To bring: daypack with lunch, snacks, fruits and at least 2 litres of water. Also bring rain gear (jacket and overpants) as the weather is quite unpredictable in the area, good sturdy hiking boots, gaiters, gloves and beanie as the temperature can drop.

Preferable start time is 9.30am as Mt Macedon is 70km from the city, will take us roughly 1 hour to drive there on the Calder Freeway (M79). All drivers will pick up at a designated spot, could be the club rooms or another place.

FYI - please be mindful of the similar township name of Macedon, not the same as Mt Macedon township. We'll be gathering up in Mt Macedon, opposite the General Store.

After the walk we can enjoy a cup of tea/coffee at the General Store café in Mt Macedon.

In case we don't have enough cars, we'll take the V/Line from Southern Cross, return ticket is $12.60 and train leaves at 9.36 if I remember correctly, and pushbikes will be taken on the train. You'll need to have a push-bike in case we're taking the train.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me on my email

Trip meeting will be on Tuesday, 12th of June at 7.10pm at the club rooms

See ya, Ingrid
