Requirements: The ability to appreciate wine.

UPDATED:

"The general expressions of interest I've heard thus far are that people are flexible on Friday with work or study and a few people have other commitments on Sunday. Based on these assumptions I put the following itinerary together:

Itinerary:

Friday
0900: Depart Melbourne
10:30: Visit a few wineries for cheese and wine tasting at their cellar doors
~14:30: Move from Yarra Valley wineries to Healesville, supermarket shop together (Friday dinner, Saturday breakfast + lunch)
~15:30: Drive to Cathedral Ranges Park at Jawbone Carpark
~16:30: Set up camp at The Farmyard Camping Ground
Sunset & wine or evening hike along ridge line

Saturday
Explore Cathedral Range (map attached)
~Evening return to Melbourne

Sunday
Plan is to return Saturday. However if interest is present a car may stay behind for more hiking or other activities currently not planned for (TBA).

Communications:

On this trip we will all be very accommodating of everyone's commitments and wishes so please speak up if you can't leave until Friday afternoon or wish to stay Saturday night.
A list of the Yarra Valley wineries can be found here: http://www.visityarravalley.com.au/search_resultall.asp please let me know if you have favorites so those can be the ones we visit.

Logistics:

Our default departure location (if you don't request otherwise) will be from the club rooms at 0900 Friday.
However please email me your address if you live close by and i will come by your house, Mitchell is leaving separably and may be able to do similarly if you live in South Eastern suburbs.

What to bring:

Cooking and eating equipment to be shared and personal utensils what we don't need will be left in the cars
Cathedral Ranges can get quite cold at night, ensure that you have organised a tent, warm clothes, sleeping bag and mat etc.
Sufficient hiking equipment for day hikes Saturday, bring layers you can get quite hot on hill climbs and cool on ridge line when stopped.
Hiking food/snacks (there will be a shopping opportunity)
Water bottles (No drinking water available: I will bring excess water but if possible attempt to be self sufficient)

Hike difficulty:

Variable, multiple loops available, personal choice of difficulty/comfort, will never be more than two hours hike from car.

All the best
Warwick
"

So this is just an idea a few of us have talked about, let me know if you have any suggestions. The idea is for a more social club trip, where not just climbers, or just bushwalkers, or just those funny conservation types attend.

Friday: drive for 3 hours to Gentle Annie camping reserve near Whitfield. Grab dinner on the way. http://www.gentleannie.net.au/index.php

Saturday morning, chose betwen:
- Hike along a yet-to-be-determined trail and enjoy the pretty scenery. We need leaders for this.
- Kayak down the King River twice. This depends upon the river level, the number of leaders we have and the experience level of the group. Realistically, probably no more than 12 will be able to do this.
- Start win tasting early.

Saturday afternoon:
Wine tasting!
There are 6 wineries located within a 5km radius of the caravan park. Walk, cycle or get a designated driver.

Saturday night:
Continue drinking wine (or your poison of choice) around a campfire and cook up a bbq dinner or something.
For those with a non-student budget, the boutique gasto pub, the Mountain View Hotel may be of interest. http://mvhotel.com.au/

Sunday, choose between:
- Nursing your hangover
- More winetasting
- Hiking somewhere else
- Kayaking the King or something else

As you can see, details need to be fleshed out. This is only a suggestion, so feel free to offer alternatives.

This will more than likely be a combined trip with Monash (MBOC) and any other outdoors clubs that are interested.
