Hello walkers,

The plan is to do an overnight walk in Mitchell River National Park, where I’ve been meaning to head to for the past 4 years or so. Time for a small break from climbing!

We will explore the Mitchell River Walking Track, more or less following the river gorge. We’re in for: impressive river scenery, serene rainforest gullies, rugged landscapes and some of Victoria’s more unusual vegetation communities – or so says the relevant Parks Victoria page. :-)

The track is only about 18 km long and follows the contours, but there will be some up and down at the end of the  (longer) first day as well, and probably a couple of creek crossings. We will need to do a car shuffle.

Friday: the drive is 4 hours, so we will aim to combine the elusive goal of leaving at a reasonable time and not getting stuck in rush hour traffic
Saturday: Angusvale to The Amphitheatre
Sunday: The Ampitheatre to Den of Nargun and Deadcock Den (this will be a fairly short day, so perhaps we could end with a festive potluck picnic)

Both Dens are beautiful spots, and the Den of Nargun is an area of great cultural significance for Gurnai/Kurnai Aboriginal people. There is also a beautiful pocket of warm temperate rainforest, which is quite rare in Victoria. Yay beautiful trees! :-)

Trip meeting will be on December 11.
Trip limit – 12.
We will  need at least 2 cars irrespective of numbers.
You will need to have been on another walk (overnight & tent-based) with the club to join this trip.

Gear:
standard weekend kit: boots + gaiters, overnigth pack, hiking tent, rain jacket, dry bag for all your food (unless you want to share it with possums), sleeping bag + mat, clothes, cooking/eating equipment etc.

Cost:
petrol + car maintenance, gear hire, food

Please leave a comment if you've got any questions.

cheers
Krissie
