Requirements: A good fitness level, some overnight trip experience and willingness for long bushwalk days.

Hi Walkers,

I am getting itchy feet and I need to work on my pack fitness, great excuse to head of in the alpine region. I'd like to go and check some of the alpine hut around bogong , Cleve Cole and Roper hut.

Here is the proposed plan :

Friday drive to Mountain creek campsite

Saturday, walk up to Cleve Cole via the staicase spur, it's about 12km and 1500m height difference. Then carry on to Roper hut via Big River , that include another 1500m of height difference ( ~750 up down to big river and then  ~750 up to the hut). This portion is about 11km. Spend the night at roper hut.

Sunday retrace our step back to Mountain creek campsite, possibly take the Eskdale spur as an alternative way down.

We'll be following part of the australian walking track, have a look at this map for a better idea of the plan : http://www.australianalps.environment.gov.au/walktrack/pubs/map-06.pdf

It's a pretty ambitious plan, if we are too slow the alternative would be to stop and camp at cleve cole on Saturday. And then do a side trip to Big River.

This trip is for fit bushwalker with some overnight experience. You basically need to be able to take care of your self. You'll need sturdy hiking boot, rain gear, backpack and a good tent.

Any question send me an email at : or speak with me on a Tuesday meeting.

Gaetan
