Requirements: See trip description

Australia Day long weekend trip to the snowy mountains for some walking when the usually freezing water will be pleasant and then a couple of days hiding from the heat inside some caves.

Day 1 – Yarrangobilly Day walk/float

Navigate theYarrangobilly river from the campsite to the nearby tourist caves this is approximate distance of 15-18km while I’m coming prepared to float down the river on a li-lo it’s more likely to be a mixture of walking, wading and the occasional swim/float. (BYO Li-lo or other floatation device) you will be getting wet.

I’ve done parts of the river but not the whole thing so there are sections where the exact river details are unknown except what can be inferred from the topo map.

The river makes it way through the Yarrangobilly caving area and while we won’t have permissions to actually go caving if time allows we may spend some time looking for interesting entrances to come back to on later trips however this is secondary.

Day 2 & 3 Caving

At nearby Cooleman Plains depending on group we might get several caves done in one day if we run out of caving there are some short day walk options however I expect the caving to take both of these days and am not planning any walks at Cooleman

Requirements

Day 1

While most of the river is easy walking either side is not always so you need to be a competent off track walker, ability to off-track navigate is preferred

Days 2 & 3

Previous caving experience preferred but not required.

Accomodation: Car camping at Nat Park campgrounds (Yarrangobilly Village and Blue Waterholes campgrounds)

Trip leader: Shannon Crack
