Bogong High Plains traverse via Mt Bogong and Mt Feathertop

Requirements: Been on a few overnight hikes, can carry heavy backpack in steep area, experienced hiker with enthusiasm for multi-day hiking with heavy backpack :)

This long ANZAC-weekend hike is heading to the Alpine National Park with a long traverse up to Mt Bogong and hiking along the Bogong High Plains on the Australian Walking Track to Ropers huts, Blairs hut, along the Diamantina Spur to Federation hut/MUMC hut and head down either North West Spur or Bungalow Spur to Harrietville/Trout farm.

We'll be driving up from Melbourne on Wednesday evening around 6pm, arriving to Mountain Creek camping ground (car camping first night) and heading up along the Staircase to Mt Bogong, passing Cole Cleve hut, crossing Big River, up to Roper hut, crossing the Bogong High Plains and joining the Australian Alpine Walking track to Blairs hut where we'll head up along Diamantina Spur which joins the Razorback track and head to Federation or MUMC hut. From here we'll decide depending on time which track we'll take down to Harrietville (this will depend on the current bushfires and track access). A car shuffle will need to be done on the morning of Thursday to Harrietville. Please bear in mind that Friday is not a public holiday (just Thursday).

Hike plan is:

Thursday April 25: Mountain Creek camping ground - Mt Bogong - Cole Cleve hut - Roper hut ==> 21km

Friday April 26: Roper hut - Cope hut ==> 10.5km

Saturday April 27: Cope hut - Blairs hut - Federation hut (MUMC hut) ==> 22km (25.5km)

Sunday April 28: Federation hut/MUMC hut - Harrietville/Trout farm ==> 9km

Total covered distance over 4 days is 62.5km, grade for the hike is difficult.

The trip will be limited to max 8 hikers for safety and responsible hiking reasons.
