Requirements: Willing to help out with maintenance tasks.

A trip to visit the club's hut on Mt Feathertop and do some maintenance, over the Easter long weekend. While the primary aim of the trip is hut maintenance work, there'll be plenty of time for beginners to explore the area with day trips away from the hut. This is also an opportunity to visit an area recently burnt by bushfires (around two months ago).

MUMC Hut after the 2013 Fires

Goals:  Finish painting the outside, fix the leaks, continue rebuilding the rock walls and remove some of the rubbish that has been revealed by the fires.

Plan: Drive up on Thursday night to camp outside of bright, stopping for dinner on the way up. On Friday morning, walk up the bungalow spur with a quick side trip to the Summit if the weather is good. Friday afternoon to Monday will be mostly spent doing maintenance work, however there will be opportunities for side trips to the summit or anywhere else along the razorback. On Monday, we will return to the cars after lunch at the hut and return to Melbourne Monday night.

Water: There is currently no water available at the hut due to the fires, all water needs to be carried ~1.5km from the spring on Mt Feathertop. Bring at least 4L of water carrying capacity (a bladder or old wine bag is perfect).

Weather: As it is an alpine area in autumn, expect variable weather. Overnight lows may be below zero, so bring appropriate clothing and a warm down sleeping bag. Also bring a deck chair for your leader, in case we get some nice sunny weather.

There will be an approximate trip limit of 4 cars, to ensure there is enough room in the hut for everyone to sleep comfortably.
