Requirements: Done some over night hiking, can deal with cold/snow!

I'm planning a trip to northern Norway to see the Aurora/Northern lights.

We are currently in a solar maximum where there are a larger number of sun spots and the sun's magnetic field flips orientation. This results in more solar wind and solar storms that power the Auroras. Solar maximums occur every 11 years so this will be the best time to see the Aurora for quite some time.

I have chosen to go to northern Norway around Tromso as it is in the best band for the Auroras, has lots of good hiking trails, is probably the most accessible place to see the Aurora and there is a much lower chance of getting eaten by a polar bear(s). October will be a good balance between daylight and night hours. The first two weeks also have a new moon so there will be dark skies.

I will probably either do a longer hike and/or hire a car and do some shorter hikes. It will be good to go to places with clear weather, so there might be some last minute decisions.

Weather will range between -2 to 10 degrees C, colder on mountains.
