Requirements: No trip meeting!

This is not being run by MUMC. Signing up on here won't do anything - you need to register with SPRATS.

SPRATS (Sea Spurge Remote Area Teams) is a volunteer group dedicated to eradicating sea spurge and marram grass from the southwest and southern wildeness coastline of Tasmania.

UPDATE as of Sept 5:

Unfortunately there will be changes to the 2013/14 summer programme. SPRATS were not successful in obtaining funding for this season and the program will need to be organised on minimal funding. This will probably involve substantial cuts and changes to the schedule. More info to follow once it's available.

There will be opportunities during January and February 2014 for bushwalkers of various fitness levels. Deployment may range from 10 to 24 days, including static camping or wilderness walking.

As well as being a fun conservation trip, it is an opportunity to walk along one of the remotest coastlines and may involve free helicopter rides in and out of the coast.

For more details see the SPRATS website.

You can also talk to past participants - Alex, Liv, Mona, our new President James and others - all of whom will be able to tell you about their experience.

For some reason, I can't locate the 2013/14 SPRATPACK online.
Last year's pack is available at: http://www.wildcaretas.org.au/images/701.pdf
Sectors and duration are the same this year, but group sizes will be smaller. The entire program is provisional and subject to adequate funding.

Anyone interested needs to send me an email and I will forward the current info pack and EOI forms. Make sure to email me at 2 addresses: conservationAT mumcDOTorgDOTau
and
goldengumleaf ATgmailDOTcom

Expression of Interest forms are due soon, preferably by MID-SEPTEMBER. Applications can be made individually or in groups of 3 or more.

This year, not all who express interest may be accommodated - this is due to the great success of SPRATS over the past 7 years (there is simply less work to be done). Addressing the criteria listed in the SPRATPACK is important when preparing your EOI.
The organisers will circulate provisional team lists in October to seek confirmation from participants.
