Requirements: See above equipment list. Must be able to swim.

If you are looking to try out whitewater kayaking for the first time this is your trip. Richard and I are running a leisurely trip from Lower Homestead Rd to Wittons Reserve on the Yarra River near Warrandyte. Water levels are quite low this time of year giving more time for new OXOs to practice skills in the rapids. A short 1 hour drive from the clubrooms makes this a perfect daytrip!

We depart from the MUMC clubrooms at 8:30 AM and return in the afternoon in time for afternoon fun in the clubrooms.

You will need:

  1. Swimming clothes (bathers and wetsuit* are ideal). Older synthetic thermal underwear can also be great.
  2. River shoes. Dunlop Volleys are a good option but anything with a flexible thin sole and enclosed design will work. Wetsuit booties are also great. If you're not sure just ask at the trip meeting.
  3. Warm set of dry clothes.
  4. Snacks for on the river.
  5. 1L of water in a small bottle.
  6. Lunch for afterwards.
  7. Sunscreen.
  8. Towel.
  9. $10 cash for drivers. $10 for gear hire (+$5 if you need a wetsuit)

($10 gear hire covers kayak, paddle, helmet, PFD, cag and deck)

* can be hired from MUMC.

If you are unable to signup with your new membership or have any questions shoot me an email. (). With current leaders and cars we only have room for 6 beginners.
