Requirements: Pretty standard overnight hike and we are in a well travelled area so navigation will not be a concern. The peaks aren't massive, and we'll do a lot of the walking without packs. The weather may start getting a bit cold, so be prepared with the right gear.

Mt Buffalo is one of those places I've been meaning to do some walks at for many years. Close to other familiar areas such as Mt Feathertop and Bogong, it is however worlds apart in appearance and terrain. It's a very popular car camping / family camping location, with the main campistes booked out months in advance. You can understand why with the spectacular rocky formations, as well as lakes and falls.

Plan:  Leaving melbourne Friday night, we'll drive around 4.5hrs to the Buckland Valley, and stay at AH Young's camping ground; OR, moutain creek campground in Tawong (I'll make up my mind soon!).  Saturday morning, drive to nearby Mt Buffalo. Depending on arrival time, we'll go visit one of the close to the road lookouts and have lunch.

After lunch, from the Reservoir Picnic area we'll take packs and hike up to the Mt McLeod campground where we'll pitch tents for the night. We can perhaps hike up to the peak (1541m) of Mt McLeod before dinner, or perhaps try to catch the sunset there.

Sunday morning we'll pack up tents, back down the track and drop them back at the cars, before bagging as many short walks as we can fit in before we want to leave for Melbourne.

Costs: Car expenses: Around $50 for fuel and maintenance.
Camping fees: $7 per 2 people. Booked in advance. Max 10 people at this camp site, so first in best dressed.
Some extra cash if you want food on the way there or back.

BOOKINGS: This is a book and pay before you go arrangement. I'll book 4 weeks prior incase we want to book out the whole site.  Hopefully it won't already have a booking! We aren't exactly talking big dollars, so I will pay myself in advance and collect money from people. However please note that if you sign up and can't come, you may still have to pay (a whole $3.5!) if we can't find anyone to fill you space. I will email out to any who've signed up just before hand to confirm with people.
