Requirements: See above equipment list. Must be able to swim.
Running another kayaking daytrip to the Yarra just outside Melbourne. This will be a small trip focusing on learning or refining skills like ferry gliding, eddy maneuvering, paddle strokes and t-rescuses. If you've kayaked once or twice with MUMC this trip is for you! That said if you really want to try kayaking for the first time we should still be able to find room for you.
Currently I still need another leader and another driver with roof racks. Dependent on both of these I have room for up to 6 beginners. The Yarra is also a lot more forgiving at it's current level than the recent levels of the Goulburn River (which is the river we ran on intro trip) so it's a lot more comfortable to practice on.
We will meet at MUMC clubrooms at 9:00 AM and return in the afternoon around 4:00 PM (this return time is flexible).
You will need:
- Swimming clothes (bathers and wetsuit* are ideal). Older synthetic thermal underwear can also be great.
- River shoes. Dunlop Volleys are a good option but anything with a flexible thin sole and enclosed design will work. Wetsuit booties are also great. If you're not sure just ask at the trip meeting.
- Warm set of dry clothes.
- Snacks for on the river.
- At least 1L of water in a small bottle.
- Lunch for afterwards.
- Sunscreen.
- Towel.
- $10 cash for drivers. $10 for gear hire (+$5 if you need a wetsuit)
($10 gear hire covers kayak, paddle, helmet, PFD, cag and deck)
* can be hired from MUMC.
