Have you visited Brisbane Ranges National Park?
It's a small, scenic park set in a low range of mountains, just over an hour from Melbourne. The unique geology (in other words: rock), which means that the park is home to some interesting plants, including grass trees.

Grass trees are threatened by cinnamon fungus, which destroys plant root systems and causes them to die through lack of water and nutrients. The Victorian National Parks Association have been monitoring grass tree health in Brisbane Ranges to help stop the spread of the disease. Come and help!

Grass Tree monitoring
Wednesday, May 14 (all day)

To register, email Christine at VNPA  - and tell her you're from MUMC. Full details will be provided upon registration, and there will be options for arranging car pooling for those without transport. Places are limited, so get in early!

PS: I can't promise you will be able to actually hug a grass tree. ;-) But helping with the monitoring is like giving them a hug!
