Lake Hindmarsh is/used to be the largest freshwater lake in Victoria, until it dried out during the big drought... but since 2011, it has water again. It is an important habitat for a variety of birds. For years and years, it's been the site of the Lake Hindmarsh habitat restoration project. This is a long-running, important conservation project working to establish a vegetation corridor in the Wimmera.

The annual Hindmarsh Landcare Network Tree Planting weekend will be taking place in mid-August.

1. this year, the event doesn't clash with with Midnight Ascent - yay! we can all go!!!
2. event dates: Friday Aug 15 (6 pm) to Sunday Aug 17
3. the Wimmera is not a region we often visit on club trips(other than for climbing at Arapiles, of course!), so it's a fantastic opportunity to explore somewhere new
4. the event will be hosted out of a small town with a delightful name: Rainbow - how could anyone not want to go there?
(the planting site itself is on a private proprety north of Lake Hindmarsh)
5. most meals are provided, and there will be entertainment on Saturday night
6. the organisers are providing a bus!!! so for once, we don't have to worry about organising cars and making the long drive - but you need to be able to go early (1 pm on Friday, cost: $45)

To register go to this link:
http://www.hindmarshlandcare.org.au/index.php/project-hindmarsh/register-project-hindmarsh-2014-16-17-august

You can find information on how to book the bus, what you need to bring etc., on the site -- so I'm not going to copy all that here.

The bus is leaving quite early, so I can help to organise car pooling within MUMC - but we'll need a willing driver. :) Please get in touch if you're able to drive or you've got more questions (hint: read the linked website first!).
Please note that I will be overseas in August and may not be able to reply to emails promptly.

cheers,
Krissie
