Hi all,

Here it is: an official MUMC tree planting trip. We'll joining the tail end of the Regent Honeyeater Project planting season - September 20 & 21
The project works to restore native Box Ironbark woodland in the Lurg Hills near Benalla and to provide habitat for threatened species, and I'm sure you've heard me talk about it before... ;)

The plan:
We'll be departing from the clubrooms on Saturday morning (2hr drive to Benalla). It's also possible to head there on Friday afternoon by train.
After the usual coffee stop etc., we'll be joining Ray and all the other volunteers at a planting site. We plant through the day, with breaks for lunch and morning tea - during which Ray gives interesting talks about his work and local wildlife. On Saturday evening, there's a (free) 3-course dinner at the local TAFE, followed by a bushdance.
On Sunday, we plant again until lunchtime, and then there's a (free) BBQ lunch prepared by the local community. Later in the day, there's the opportunity to join a guided walk through some of the planting sites. Then we head home.

Free accommodation is provided in the Scout Hall - there are mattresses, but you'll need a sleeping bag, pillow & whatever else you need. Alternatively, bring a tent and camp in the reserve next door.
$3 gets you a hot shower at the local caravan park.

You'll need:
- filled water bottles, packed lunch for Saturday & breakfast for Sunday (or we'll go to the local bakery)
- sleeping and/or camping gear as detailed above
- clothes to get dirty in (and to change into), sturdy shoes, rain jacket, sunscreen, hat, and gardening gloves are useful if you have them
- cash for petrol & car maintenance

Trip meeting will be on Tuesday, September 16.

cheers
Krissie
