Just after the Howitt Plains road opens for summer:
a 4-day bushwalk in the Razor/Viking alpine wilderness area, Howitt-Speculation-Viking-Wonnangatta. Departing in the evening on Friday 31 Oct (or Sat early morning), about 6h driving to the Howitt Plains carpark via Licola. The first part of the circuit goes on the AAWT, starting with the Crosscut Saw. This is an amazing ridge overlooking the "Terrible Hollow" and "Devil's Staircase" in the East (the place has indeed some dark history) and Mt Buller/Stirling in the West. Continuing via Mt Speculation and Viking, camping on each of them or other summits, then down to Wonnangatta river and back to the carpark, to return on the Melbourne Cup day.

The circuit has some amazing camping places with wonderful views. The track is demanding all the time with steep and bushy sections and we need to carry some more water. The spring weather can present us with cold rain or even snow and frosty nights.

We need to be able to carry a heavy pack in steep terrain and be self-sufficient with clothing, food and accommodation. This usually requires previous (and recent) outdoor experience in bushwalking or similar activities, preferably with the club
