Howitt Plains to Mt Speculation

Easter weekend trip! 26th - 29th March

3.5 days of hiking, exploring and overnight camping journeying from Howitt Plains Car Park to Mt Speculation and back via Crosscut Saw leaving Saturday afternoon.

This walk is open to individuals of all abilities. Gear hire is available from the club.

Some input to the sites that you want to see on the return journey is also welcomed.

Number of people would be anywhere up to 10, this will depend on the availability of vehicles.

General plan -places subject to change - times are fixed-

Day 1 (Saturday):

Leaving from clubrooms 12pm Saturday 26th of March.

Getting to Howitt Plains (Car Park) at about 3-4pm. Walk to Macalister springs and camp Saturday night.

Day 2 (Sunday):

Hike up to Mt Speculation via Crosscut Saw. Camping on Mt Spec Sunday night - STARGAZING and photography!

Day 3 (Monday):

Hike back, perhaps explore Mt Howitt or Mt Magdala depending on group fitness, what people want to see*

Day 4 (Tuesday):

Morning half day hike back to the Howitt Plains (Car Park) and daylight drive back to Melbourne maybe stopping for dinner on the way back!

Announcement of trip and expressions of interest can be made down below, and will be made at the clubrooms on the 15th March. Best to attend the 15th March meeting to secure a place in case there are too many people - if not email me -

Final trip meeting will be on the 22nd March is COMPULSORY, and possibly any late last minute sign-ups.

Will send further information on gear, food and water recommendations for the hike to those participating. Determining numbers by about Friday the 18th March, will be random/based on vehicle requirements.
