Hi every one,

This is five days trip during the Easter holiday 24-29 March to Frenchmans Cap.(1446 m) in the Franklin-Gordon Wild River National park part of the Tasmanian wilderness UNESCO World heritage Area. http://www.parks.tas.gov.au/?base=2255

- Group size: small team around 6 people as per the park recommendation.

- Experience: The track is challenging walk to summit the Frenchman’s Cap ,participants , must have good hiking experience and done at least few MUMC trips .

Note: We will need to arrange the transport as early as possible, whether by cars or flights and public transports )

Trip Meeting: Tuesday 15/03/2016 7:00 PM MUMC Club, south of the main (Parkville) campus of Melbourne University. Opposite the 'SPOT' building at 169-171 Berkeley Street

The plan:

Day 1 Thursday 24/03 - Lyell Highway to Lake Vera Hut (6 hrs):

We cross the franklin river swing bridge then climb to Mount Mullen where you get the firs look of the spectacular Frenchmans Cap. We will then pass through the forest to the Loddon River and ascend to lake Vera for night camp.

Day 2 Friday 25/03 - Lake Vera Hut to Lake Tahune Hut (4 hrs):

We will walk to Lake Tahune and then after lunch, depends on the weather, we make it to the summit around 2 hours return trip.

Day 3 Saturday 26/03 - Lake Tahune to Irenabyss 11 KM (return):

Day walk to Irenabyss with possible refreshing swim (bring your swimming cloths!).

Day 4 Sunday 27/03 - Lake Tahune to Lake Vera ( 4 hrs)

We walk back through Artichoke Vally to Lake Vera. Another opportunity to summit if weather is permitting, or just an easy day to relax

Day 5 Monday 28/03 - Lake Vera Hut to Lyell Highway (6 hrs):

For those who will catch public transports on Tuesday 10:00 am, we will camp at Franklin River 15 minute from car park, others can head back the same day or stay for the night.

Option 1: - From Hobart

Thursday 24 March - Depart time 8:00 AM

Meet 7:40 am at Brisbane Street Terminus 64 , Hydro Building 4 Elizabeth St.

Catch public bus 730 to Lyell Highway Frenchmas Cap walking track Car park ( cost 55$ for Adult, discount for student)

Return - Tuesday 29 March - Depart time 10:15 AM

Catch the Bus 730 from Lyell Highway Frenchmas Cap Car park to Hobart ( cost 55$)

Option 2 :

By CAR whether from Melbourne or hire one in Tasmania (depends on people and cars availability).

Meeting point will be at the Frenchman’s Cap Car Park around 12:20 PM
