Hello Ladies and non-men,

Are you done with a literature review, thesis or assessments for the semester or want to procrastinate?

I have a plan for you!

The idea behind this hike is a bit of a mesh between the (Nikita and Mirandas') Women's Easter hike last year and the SWOTVAC feathertop hike I ran in June 2025. Essentially, women's outdoor adventures are often catered for beginners and/or inexperienced members (and that's awesome!) but its also nice to find a little group of really fit, experienced and fast women who just want to smash out a hike.  The latter part of it is that we are bit crazy and want to go hiking in fairly extreme conditions (like the SWOTVAC hike), being in June, in the high country.

This trip has a sing-up limit of five so that we can all fit into one car and be an efficient group with minimal faffage.

Trip info:

Name: Buffalo Plateau Circuit Hike

Carpark: Gorge Day Visitor Area

Length: 33.8km, Tuesday: ~16km, Wednesday: ~13km

Elevation: its a loop, 1581m vert. Tuesday: +730/-950 Wednesday: +750/-540

Timing: Leave early Tuesday morning, leaving crooms at 8:15, arrive by 1pm.

Weather: Forecast not yet available (written on the 31st May).  Participants will be updated via email.

Water requirements: Carry 2L, bring filtration or sterilisation.

Risks: hyperthermia, sprains and exposed terrain.

Depending on timing we may do this route in reverse.

We expect to be getting back to cars by sunset.

I am aware that this hike has previously been posted years ago as a beginner trip but due to the time of year and expected pace, it has been posted as advanced.

In 2018 Hugh Mason wrote this:

Saturday (~16km)

The hike will follow a combination of the Long Plain Walking Trail, Mollison Galleries Track, and Rocky Creek Trail. We'll pass Mt Dunn, Og Gog Magog, Eagle Point, and we'll take some time to admire the surrounds. Saturday night we'll set up camp at the Rocky Creek Campground, it's an unpowered site with drop toilets and a creek.

Sunday (~13km)

Leaving Rocky Creek Campground heading towards Macs Point Lookout, and then follow the trails back to Lake Catani, we may stop off at The Monolith for some photos as well.

The hike is quite ungulated with no severe ascents and descents.
